Evidence-based psychological therapy online and in Bristol

I’m George, a University of Oxford trained Therapist. I am well versed in a variety of therapy and mindfulness/ meditation traditions, and integrate a blend of therapeutic approaches and techniques within my practice.

That being said, I have specialist training in the three waves of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). The first wave of CBT focuses on improving our wellbeing by changing our behaviour. The second wave adds techniques to support us in changing our thoughts. The third wave includes additional techniques to support how we relate to our experience. Third wave traditions comprise of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and compassion focused therapy (CFT). These therapies can empower us to move towards what we value with more mindfulness, acceptance and compassion. I feel all three waves have made important contributions to CBT, and I integrate techniques from all of their traditions within my practice.

After studying a master’s in MBCT at the University of Oxford, I became a fully qualified Mindfulness/ Meditation Therapist. Sharing mindfulness/ meditation with others and seeing how their lives benefit is one of my greatest joys. Whether that be:

  • teaching beginners how to meditate and use meditative techniques to improve their wellbeing;

  • exploring barriers to meditation, or working with difficulties within meditation;

  • taking regular meditators deeper and further into meditative insights.

Although the three waves of CBT and MBCT are what I have specialised in, I integrate a wider range of therapeutic and mindfulness/ meditation traditions within my practise. I believe the best therapists are those who are led by, and tailor their style to, the individuals they are seeing.

I’m in a good place today and I have George to thank for that."

"My therapy has been so beneficial I can't really put it into words. It's made me understand so much of what I do and feel and given me a lot of tools to help me cope better with things going forward. George has been fantastic. I feel sad that it's come to an end."

“Thank you so much for running the Mindfulness course, I really appreciated the opportunity you gave us to learn about finding peace in a frantic world. I found the course a life enhancing experience… It was striking how you modelled in your delivery and approach what you were describing and teaching, that was a learning experience in itself… Finally, my heartfelt thanks for your gift of time and knowledge and sharing.”

"George was an extremely caring and concerned therapist who wanted to help improve my mental health through CBT. He is always prepared to listen and adapt his session when necessary if I was feeling low. He has provided me with many valuable resources that I will be able to look at again. I definitely feel he has given me the tools to feel much better about myself and able to cope with uncertainty. He also has helped greatly with my understanding of my core beliefs and how to challenge them."
